Gov. Babagana  Zulum of Borno on Wednesday met with heads of security agencies and other stakeholders in the state over rising cases of gangsterism in Maiduguri and environs.

Addressing newsmen after the security meeting, Zulum observed that the gangs, who hitherto engaged in handsets snatching had graduated to robbery and killings.

“These syndicates who specialised in handsets snatching, daylight robbery using locally made weapons have graduated to killings.”

Zulum said the youths not only kill themselves in gang fights but also attack security personnel and members of the public.

He cited the recent killing of a policeman and an unidentified man by such gangs almost in the same area, adding that government will not allow such acts to continue.

“The State Goverment under my leadership will not allow such matter to deteriorate.

“Security agencies are tasked to come up with recommendations and far reaching decisions to curtail such activities within Maiduguri and environs,” Zulum said.

On Tuesday, the police command in Borno paraded 10 suspects arrested in connection with the killing of a police constable.
